OFFICIAL SUBMISSION:
To: The Chief Executive Officer of the Snowy Monaro Regional Council
Subject: RECENT ASSAULT ON COUNCILLOR LUKE WILLIAMSON AT THE COOMA COUNCIL OFFICES – 5 JULY 2025
Message Body:
I am very aware of the appalling events concerning Councillor Williamson’s experience in the kitchen of the Council Offices Thursday 3rd July 2025.
I understand that the matter will now be referred to the police and as such I am obliged to provide a witness statement along the lines of the attachment to this letter.
Witness Statement regarding incident involving Councillor Luke Williamson
Date of Incident: Thursday 3rd July 2025
Location: Cooma Council Offices
I was a witness at the incident that Councillor Luke Williamson experienced the afternoon of Thursday 3rd July 2025 at the Cooma Council Offices.
I was present at the Council Meeting in the public gallery. However, during the incident, I was standing in the hallway between the Council Chamber and the small kitchen where the incident occurred. I was in this position at the time that Councillor Williamson left the kitchen and passed through the short hallway back to the Council Chamber.
It was clear that Councillor Williamson had left the kitchen room in a state of complete shock. It was obvious that he was in an emotional and confused state, quite the opposite of his normal persona. He had clearly experienced something deeply upsetting.
Although I spoke to him, it was apparent that he was not able to converse, such was the state of his mind. Recognising his distressed state I did not press him further. He then proceeded to pass me and re-enter the Council chamber.

Someone says recently these are very violent people …
That’s an understatement.
Clearly they are now going to target the 2 remaining independents.
Watch that space.
It’s coming.
A very bad reflection on the council. None of these instances seem to bova them - unless they are under attack themselves, or feel like they are.
And when will the police act ? After an investigation?
Let’s see.
Might be another instance of being assaulted in a local cafe - how long is it now ?
Has the criminal been charged ?
No, I didn’t think so.
Dunshea ?
Outta here me !
Doesn’t OLG run local NSW councils ?
Crickets - that’s all I hear.
Bullying should not be tolerated in any workplace, especially a local council meeting.
